OTC Elite’s Lauren Fleshman prepares to run 5,000 meters

Lauren FleishmanNext Friday, OTC Elite athlete Lauren Fleshman will run the 5,000 meters at the IAAF Diamond League meet in Stockholm.  As she is preparing for that race, she wrote on her blog about “A fantastic (and painful) workout on the track in Font Romeu with a star studded cast”:

“Oh (rapid breath) my (rapid breath) uhhhh (rapid breath) aaaayyyyeee…

Ouch.

Two sets done out of three and I’m hunched over, moaning like Meg Ryan in “When Harry Met Sally.”  Good thing there are only other professionals on the track; civilians assume I’m being tortured by my coach and start nervously pulling out their cellphones when I’m like this.”  Good luck Lauren!

Oscar Pistorius meets “A” standard

Listen to South African athlete Oscar Pistorius describe to FloTrack his thrill of meeting the IAAF “A” standard so that he can compete at 400 meters in Daegu, South Korea in the World Championships.

TrackTown, USA was thrilled to watch Pistorius run at the Prefontaine Classic – and we look forward to seeing him race in Daegu.

Herculis Diamond League Monaco

Nick Symmonds OTC Elite’s Nick Symmonds joins a star studded line up in star studded Monaco tomorrow.  He will race against World Record holder David Rushida of Kenya and fellow American (and Team USA member) Khadevis Robinson.

In other Herculis action, the Men’s 5,000 meters will be a race to watch! Americans Galen Rupp, Chris Solinski, Matt Tegencamp and Bernard Legat will race against some of the best in the world: Mo Farah, Tariku Bekele and Imane Merga.  Wow!

On the field, Stephanie Brown-Trafton and Aretha Thurmond will get a chance to throw against some of the best discus throwers around.

Oh, and that fast guy? Usain Bolt is scheduled to run the 100 meters as well.

After this week’s meet in Monaco, there are two more Diamond League meets before Worlds: next week in Stockholm and then the first weekend in August in London.  You can watch live on-line and television (where scheduled) on Universal Sports.

TrackTown Thursday News

The Prefontaine Classic is bringing some amazing athletes to TrackTown to compete on June 4.

Oscar PistoriusOscar Pistorius — the double amputee who has become known as “The Blade Runner”  –will compete in the 400 meters.  Pre meet director Tom Jordan told the Register Guard: “I think his participation is an opportunity for Oregon fans to see one of the great stories currently in track and field.  He’s known world-wide as ‘The Blade Runner,’ and he has been ruled eligible to compete in IAAF track and field meets. We think the fans at Hayward Field will give him a warm welcome, and hopefully he’ll set a personal best.”

Another South African has also confirmed that she will compete at Pre.  Caster_SemenyaCaster Semenya will compete in the 800 meters, as she prepares to defend her World Champion title later in the summer in Daegu, South Korea.
